TRAILER TRANSCRIPT
Riki: Okay Dannie. Listen to this. Tell me if this is kinda like how you’re feeling. Female Content Creators are sometimes overlooked but at GeekGirlCon they are given the opportunity to not only share their passions and achievements but also grow and learn from each other. We’re documenting other people’s experiences as we ourselves experience the Road to GeekGirlCon and grow and learn. Right? That’s what we’re doing, right?

Dannie: Yeah, but now we’re at this bridging point where it’s like his is beyond GeekGirlCon this is beyond a convention this is something that we want– that could be much bigger than this and like–

Riki: Well that’s where the end comes in. Where we grow and learn. Right now, we’re growing and learning and that’s the documentary.

Dannie: Okay so that’s like the beginning of the documentary.

Sarah: There was a sign outside the door and next to “Geek Girls Exists” someone had written “you lie!” So– At that, I think I got a sense of like, there is a community but maybe not everyone is aware of it yet.

Jen: People have found friends and business partners online because in the community and found people who like the same things that they do– Which is the point I think of Fandom.

Eva: I’ve never found my own skin until we had our shop because I didn’t know any of these people existed.

Veronica: It’s nice to find other people that do what you do because it’s important to make connections because that’s how we know we’re not alone in this universe.

Sammus: There’s nothing that’s deviant about you for enjoying that type of stuff and I think that’s the primary role of representation so you can see yourself in these places and know that it’s okay.

Sienna: The first thing we can do is as Female Creators– to be sort of public about it

Riki: I can do anything a boy can do.

Davena: Play in public and play with other groups. Don’t closet ourselves away from gaming with with guys or gaming with other groups.

Angela: Well if someone was threatening to rape and kill you, you’d probably be kinda mad too. So maybe just let me make my art and if you don’t like it go away.

Rachel: It’s so present and so pervasive that it makes looking past it and getting done the other stuff that needs to get done that much more difficult. It’s like trying to work in a room where everyone is yelling about something you know is genuinely really important and really alarming and keeps you at a continuous state of low level anxiety and so again there’s a lot of burn out.

Victoria: Three girls figuring out what the hell they’re doing on the road.

Riki: Halfway there we don’t know what we’re doing.

Regina: If you’re in a situation and someone is harassing someone and you don’t say anything in response, that’s acceptance of what they’re saying and it reaffirms that culture

Ellen: We’ve got more power than we think and if we use it for good think of the change the good change we can bring our community. You can dismiss us but we’re still here and we do mean business.

Eileen: They acted like, I had some nonprofit or I had some side thing I was doing and I had to learn to overcome that and say “No, I’m a CEO and have a C-corp and it’s a company.”

Angel: Most of those people really just think that we’re just doing this just for fun, and we are. Don’t get me wrong. But we take it serious cause it’s important and it’s making the world a better place.

Sheila: I think having the freedom, to figure out who you are, to figure out that identity. Take it and express it that is crucial to creation and creativity.

Carol: If you’re in it place where you feel safe and you are allowed to make mistakes then perhaps something new and different and innovative is gonna come out of you.

Larryn: When you post a video there’s this moment where you’re just like– How many views is it gonna get? I hope people watch it! I hope they like it! And all these things run through your head. You just want like this approval from your fans, like yeah! You’re doing good keep going. We want to see more.

Noelle: It took me so long to get out there because I was afraid of failure. I was a afraid, you know, people wouldn’t like my stuff. People get their stuff out there all the time good or bad and it’s one of those things there will always be someone that loves your stuff. So you just have to go for it. You just have to put it out there take the criticism. Learn from everything and don’t be afraid to you know show who you are.

Dannie: I think this documentary needs to happen and it’s been a good time because there’s so many characters, so many stories, so many platforms and mediums where we’re coming so close to having better representation. More people creating content, for women by women and it just needs to be known. We just need to share some of the struggles that these content creators are facing and– How can we inspire more people to write? How can we tell people that it’s okay to fail? How can we get people to just create? Because I think that’s something that we’re all kinda capable of doing and are born to do is to create something
